Artist Statement
For me, art is primarily a form of "being present" practice. The most precious aspect of art lies in its ability to convey "the warmth of humanity". Technique is merely the outer shell of music; only the performer's current breath and contemplation can give the music its flesh and blood. Whether it's performing traditional classics or modern works, as the presenter on the stage, what I strive for is the present and genuine sense of life.
Secondly, art is a dialogue that transcends time and space. As a performer of the traditional Chinese instrument, the pipa, I cherish tradition because in traditional works, there are the emotions and wisdom of the Chinese people over thousands of years. These classic works are like bridges, connecting the past and the present. When I play modern pieces, I am using this ancient language of the pipa to tell contemporary stories and communicate with today's audience. Making tradition live in the present and regain new vitality is our responsibility as contemporary performers.
Finally, the core of art ultimately lies in "people". The brilliance on the stage is rooted in the daily "honesty in the piano room". As a teacher, I understand even more that the transmission of "people" is more important than the imparting of "skills". I hope to ignite the passion in students' hearts, guide them to find their own voices, and make the pipa a channel for them to express their lives and understand the world. The beauty of art is ultimately to reach the hearts and warm the hearts, whether it is the performer themselves or everyone who listens.
This is what I believe: In the collision between the fingertips and the strings, one completes the practice of life; in the dialogue between the past and the present, one shoulders the responsibility of inheritance; in the integration of people and music, one conveys the power of warmth. For me, the pipa is no longer just an instrument; it has become a way of life.
