About
Mosaz Zijun Zhao is a visual artist based in New York and a graduate of the School of Visual Arts with a BFA in Illustration. Her work is characterized by delicate lines and symbolic imagery that explore the intersections of memory, culture, and the spiritual world. Growing up within an Asian cultural context, she incorporates the stories, visions, and emotions from her childhood into her creative perspective.
Through years of cross-cultural living and study, Zhao has developed an artistic language that balances tradition and individuality. In addition to her independent practice, she actively engages in curatorial and academic review work and participates in international art communities. Her works have been exhibited in major museums, biennales, and art institutions across Europe, America, and Asia, and have received multiple international awards and media recognition.
In September 2025, she was invited to join the Asian Art Association Singapore (Traditional Painting).
Artist Statement
My artwork is rooted in a continuous response to traditional cultural memory and the inner spiritual realm. As an Asian artist, the symbols, imagery, and rituals that have been interwoven into my life since childhood serve as recurring materials for reflection and reconstruction. Through this process of re-creation, I seek to express a reconciliation and fusion between the power embedded in tradition and the consciousness of the contemporary self.
Each composition is built from intricate lines that flow across the canvas like streams of thought, eventually converging into a unified image. These lines embody the entanglement of memory, emotion, and awareness. For me, art is both a pathway to trace and clarify my own spiritual landscape, and a medium through which I share contemplation and sensibility with the viewer.
