Yang Zhongcai

Renowned Chinese Erhu Artist / Canada

About

Yang Zhongcai, a renowned erhu player and educator. He has devoted over fifty years to the field of erhu performance and teaching. His artistic career has been a lifelong dedication to safeguarding the traditional sounds of China. The passage of half a century has not only refined his flawless erhu performance skills but also cultivated his extremely unique and profound aesthetic understanding of traditional Chinese instruments.

Mr. Yang's performance style is both vigorous and gentle, combining the grandeur of a mighty river with the delicacy of a slow flowing stream. Through long-term artistic practice, he broke away from the fragmented model of traditional teaching and combined the soul of folk art with the training logic of modern norms, constructing a complete, systematic and forward-looking teaching system for ethnic instrumental music. This system not only focuses on the imparting of techniques, but also emphasizes the exploration of the humanistic essence behind the music pieces, and has become a precious gem in the field of ethnic music education.

Mr. Yang Zhongcai has always held a sincere heart for folk art. He firmly believes that ethnic music is the most profound expression of a nation's thoughts, and only by going global can it gain more eternal vitality.

In March 2026, he was invited to join the Asian Art Association Singapore (Chinese Traditional Instruments), serving as a judge for the "World Erhu Competition" and becoming a Lifetime member.
