Jay Chau is a cultural leader, curator, and public cultural practitioner dedicated to advancing artistic exchange, cultural collaboration, and public value through the arts.

He is the Chairman of the Asian Art Association Singapore, and is involved in the development of AAA Arts London, working to strengthen connections between Asian and European art communities through exhibitions, cultural programmes, educational initiatives, and international collaborations.

Jay advocates the idea of “Art Creates Public Value”, exploring how art can contribute to public engagement, social connection, urban culture, and cross-cultural understanding.

He holds a Master’s degree in Advanced Public Policy and Management from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. Before entering the cultural sector, Jay worked at leading Chinese internet companies including NetEase and Tencent, where he gained experience in digital innovation, public communication, and cross-disciplinary project development.

In 2012, he initiated and organised a public online debate among candidates for the Hong Kong Chief Executive election, exploring new possibilities for digital platforms to facilitate public participation and policy dialogue.

In 2018, Jay founded the Asian Art Association Singapore, with the vision of creating an international platform connecting artists, cultural organisations, educational institutions, and communities across Asia and beyond. Under his leadership, the organisation has developed a range of international art competitions, exhibitions, educational programmes, and social impact initiatives.

Through curatorial practice, cultural commentary, and international engagement, Jay continues to explore the role of art in shaping societies, strengthening cultural dialogue, and creating meaningful connections across borders.

In recent years, his cultural perspectives have been featured by major Asian media outlets, including People’s Daily, South China Morning Post, Lianhe Zaobao, and Central News Agency (Taiwan). His writings and interviews focus on cultural policy, urban development, cultural soft power, and the relationship between art and society.

In 2025, Jay was invited as a roundtable speaker at the HONOR AI + Design Summit (Asia Pacific), organised by HONOR, where he joined academics, designers, and creative industry leaders from across Southeast Asia to discuss artificial intelligence, design innovation, and the future development of creative talent.

Curatorial Development and International Exchange

Jay participated in the Curating Contemporary Art and Design Summer Course at the Royal College of Art (RCA), London, in July 2026, focusing on:
“Art in Public Space: Curating and Commissioning Contemporary Art in Social Contexts.”
The programme explored contemporary curatorial approaches, public art practices, community engagement, and the relationship between art, society, and shared spaces.

Cultural Research and Public Writing

With an academic background in public policy, Jay’s practice bridges cultural studies, urban development, and social innovation.
He regularly writes and comments on cultural issues, particularly focusing on Asian cities, cultural governance, and cultural soft power.
